- Enter your user account’s current password when prompted.
- In Vista and Windows XP, it is usually C:, in Windows 7, it is D: in most cases because the first partition contains Startup Repair.

Works like a charm! After pressing shift five times, command prompt came up just fine. Type this command to replace sethc.exe with cmd.exe: copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe Reboot your computer and start the Windows installation where you forgot the administrator password. I was in the wrong sector the first time. BitLocker is suitable because it is the best protection against password reset hacks. Some instructions required some thinking but we figured it out.

The sethce.exe file that I copied has a size of 279,040.So...If I understand correctly, I should do the following:a) copy the original (279kb) sethc.exe file back into the D partition where Luckily, I was able to figure it out.
