Unfortunately, I now have the exact same problem on another of my networked Win7 Pro computers and the the fix didn't work on it. Vista was a clean install, had any Vista drivers downloaded and ready, everything went great. The one that created the homegroup (the one with Pro), can't see the 7 Ultimate one, but the 7 Ultimate one can see the 7 Professional one. - You can find the HomeGroup password by going to Control Panel and opening HomeGroup.

I have followed all the firewall settings contained in Microsoft's "Homegroup and Firewall Interaction." I have checked every service mentioned in this web site and others. And i look at the available networks, but my house'sinternet isnt in the lis. However, As John mentioned way above, there does seem to be a trend of the WRT54G not playing nice with vista. I have run the gammet of possibilities…..clock synchro, ipv6, homegroup settings, left the group, made a new group. That's more than a 20 times increase in transfer speed. I also update/then uninstalled McAfee v7.2 Security Center. I changed the Wireless-N Mode enabled option in the device driver to disabled and just connected at Wireless-G speeds. my printer is shared (from my desktop) and works OK. Am using VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i and this does the job.

The new dell came with McAfee installed already, i tried disabling the firewall but it didnt work, i uninstalled it like you said and it worked great. I am using Netgear from Charter and it accepts my password but it keeps saying the connection has timed out or error due to user.
