Change UmiKey 3.0 Settings with UmiKey Writer Version 3.x
UmiKey Corp. offers the Windows tool to change settings of your UmiKey as follows:
- If your UmiKey OTP starts with ecee, that's
UmiKey 3.0. Use the UmiKey Writer on this page.
- If your UmiKey OTP starts with eced, that's
UmiKey 2.0,
use UmiKey Writer 2.x instead.
Before launching UmiKey Writer, make sure you have only one
UmiKey inserted to your PC.
This tool runs on Windows OS's only.
- Old / New Password: This is used to protect the UmiKey settings from unauthorized
changes. Any character on your keyboard is allowed. Make sure the password has 8
characters.
- Mode Option: Turn on browser-based auto-navigation to a web site
upon inserting the UmiKey to a USB port
- Speed:
- For English keyboard layout, set Speed = On
- For European, Japanese or keyboard layouts of other languages,
set Speed = Off if you want auto-navigation to work. But the output
speed will be slower.
- Web Site: The auto-navigation URL
- Windows/Mac: Insert Umikey into a USB port without holding the button.
Auto-navigation will start when the LED starts blinking;
-
Linux:
Hold down the button
and insert UmiKey to a USB port without releasing the button.
When the LED is on, release the button.
And auto-navigation will start, LED starts blinking.
If you use Linux a lot, you may want to
turn on the Linux option.
- Error Operations: If the button is pressed under Windows/Mac or the button is
not pressed under Linux, unpredictable operations could happen. Don’t worry,
these unpredictable operations will not damage your PC or OS in any way.
- Static Key: Make the UmiKey generate a fixed password. You will be
prompted to enter the 8-character static password which can consist of any character on your keyboard.
You can switch back to one-time password mode any time with this tool.
Other Settings recommended when you make a Static Key:
- Start-up Check: how many times UmiKey checks the OS and the USB
hardware to output the auto-navigation command when it is inserted into a
USB port.
- Append CR: Append an 'Enter' keystroke after outputing the password
- Auto OTP: After an UmiKey is inserted, an OTP is auto-generated and appended
after the auto-navigation URL. The advantage is that the user does not even have to
touch the button to generate one-time password. Browsing and logging in are done
in one shot.
But you have to make sure there is a backend application ready to accept and
validate the UmiKey OTP. The following means the site has a program 'xyz' which
is expecting the OTP.
http://your_web_site/xyz?otp=.....
- Linux:
Turn this mode on if you are primarily a Linux user.
Note that if this option is checked, you do not have to
hold down the button to
trigger auto-navigation on Linux.
If you use it under Windows/Mac when this option is on, unpredictable
operations will happend. So turn this option off when you want use
under Windows/Mac.
Since auto-navigation will be off on Windows/Mac if this is on.
- After UmiKey settings change,
remove UmiKey from the USB port,
and close this tool.
- Insert UmiKey into a USB port again, your changes will take effect.
